The architects who designed the Spodek were selected in 1959 in a competition announced by the Association of Polish Architects. The team of designers from the Office of Studies and Typical Designs of Industrial Construction from Warsaw included the architects: Maciej Gintowt and Maciej Krasiński. The author of the structure of the Spodek was prof. Eng. Wacław Zalewski, a genius constructor, author of the construction of the Katowice railway station and the Warsaw Supersam. A collaborator of prof. Zalewski was Andrzej Żórawski. An ardent supporter of building a modern hall in the center of Katowice was the Silesian voivode, General Jerzy Ziętek, who wanted it to be a symbol of the city. It was opened in 1971. The hotel was modernized through a competition in 2017. and the winner was an architectural studio from Kielce - 2G STUDIO MSc. arch. Wojciech Gwizdak. The toilets in the building are equipped with Roca products.
It was with this philosophy that the discreet under countertop basins Neo Selene were selected, as well as the efficiency of the Instant self-closing faucets. The refurbishment was completed with the versatile Meridian WCs and the accessories from the Access collection, fundamental to facilitate access to the bathroom to people with reduced mobility. Equipping one of Barcelona’s most visited cultural infrastructures requires assuring the best service and maximum durability and efficiency. The combination of bathroom solutions with elegant designs such as under countertop basins is proof of the attention to detail in a project destined to provide service to one of the most emblematic buildings in Barcelona.

Roca was the company chosen by the organizers of the Olympic Games, as their products meet stringent requirements relating to water conservation. Thus, the bathroom spaces surrendered to the original shapes of the vitreous china collections such as Khroma and Hall as well as to the Oslo compact WCs or the Euret urinals. All of this without forgetting the commitment to energy efficiency by installing the Loft-E faucets, activated by a presence sensor. The perfect combination of design, resistance and efficiency was the key to face not only one of the world’s most important events, but also its celebration in one of the planet’s most populated countries. The selected collections and sanitary appliances provide the outstanding durability and hygiene of Roca’s vitreous china while the Loft-E basin faucets, only activated by the presence of a human being, avoid the unnecessary waste of water in a place destined to receive millions of visits.
