Is it possible to innovate with a classic?

Textures and colours to reinvent a vintage spirit tile.

When the first New York subway line was opened in 1904, few could imagine that the tile used in those tunnels would become a decorative icon more than one century later. Today, the subway tile can be found in homes and interior design projects all around the world, and its unusual horizontal cut has inspired many collections ranging from vintage to modern. We explain how to make the most of the different versions of this classic at the service of your bathroom or kitchen.

SUITE BEVEL. The return of a classic

If you believe that anything vintage provides personality, you will be delighted to see that the Suite Bevel collection recovers the charisma of the original 7.5 x 15 cm subway tile. Rectangular, white, glazed and bevelled, the tiles that illuminated the New York subway are perfect for those who opt for an urban and timeless style, without renouncing the properties of the most resistant and easy-to-clean ceramic. The neatness of white colour finds its ideal opposite in the rotundity and elegance of the black tile, and the contrast of both will add a touch of distinction to your kitchen or bathroom, with the guarantee that the classic binomial never goes out of style.

MAIOLICA. Smooth or decorated: countless combinations

With soft water reliefs inspired by handcrafted ceramics, the Maiolica collection experiments with colours and textures in 11 x 25 cm. Thus, reinterpreting the shape of the subway tile, Maiolica is a more rustic and traditional proposal than the original. Each one of its six colours –White, Biscuit, Taupe, Aqua, Blue Steel and Tender Grey- has a decorated version with up to six different designs. Recalling lace or wallpaper in its deco versions, you will be able to mix them randomly in your kitchen or bathroom to create a unique space.

COLOR COLLECTION. The most minimalistic version

The characteristic horizontal cut of the subway tile is an inspiration for a more sober model in which volume and bevelling disappear. With a matt or gloss finish, Color Collection is a minimalistic proposal available in an 11 x 40.5 cm format for a wide range of installation possibilities. With four colours –White Ice, Taupé, Biscuit and Tender Gray-, it may be combined with floor tiles such as Plaster, whose aesthetic recalls urban cement in a pure style without stridency.
